This industry involves the management of money, finances and insurance services in government or private companies, or via financial technologies.
Public sector services (ie: government) activities include financial policy and regulation, managing government funds, and monitoring large financial movements and companies.
Private sector activities include lending finances, operating money transfer systems, dealing stocks or trading foreign currency exchanges, providing financial advice planning to companies and people, and managing financial risks and assets.
Fintech (financial technology) involves new tech, software and algorithms designed to improve, manage and automate the delivery and use of financial services for companies, business owners and consumers (individuals).
Jobs are usually in banks, credit unions, superannuation and insurance providers, investment companies, fintech companies (ie: Afterpay, Airwallex, ZIP or Stripe) and stockbroking agencies.
Employability skills include financial literacy, information literacy, critical thinking and communication.
Many jobs are located in capital cities, and most jobs are full time. University degrees are required for skilled jobs, although some jobs (ie: bank tellers) do not require post-school qualifications.
